Dear readers,
For the 2nd time, we welcome music blogger cizenbayan who is sharing her Istanbul concerts picks for May, exclusively for Canım Istanbul. You can listen to the artists mentioned below on our SoundCloud account. Enjoy!
In May, Istanbul celebrates spring with festivals. Each and every festival brings more fun and joy to the city. It is time to wear all our lovely colorful clothes, enjoy good music, have fun and be happy…
The season opens with the “Paris” themed Downtown Festival on May 7th, which will take place at several venues throughout the city until the 10th. The list of artists taking the stage is not known yet but one look at team Gigology’s previous works assures us that this is something to get excited about.
How about listening to The DØ and Kadebostany at Kucukciftlik Park, sipping your drinks on the green green grass, on May 10th? Then don’t miss out on ParkFest, especially if you still haven’t met with the naughty woman of love Kalben, the alternative indigenous musician!
On May 15th, one of the best producers of downtempo electronic style, Bonobo, will step into the DJ booth at Beyoglu Innpark.
The 23rd of May turns out to be a bit tricky… Which one to choose? Soundgarden or Chill Out Festival? Difficult decision. Soundgarden is at Kilyos, by the sea, and the main attraction there will be Wild Beasts and Goat. Chill-Out Festival, on the other hand, celebrating its 10th year, will take place at LifePark surrounded by an amazing forest view. Slowdive and Thievery Corporation are but some of the remarkable groups also playing. Also, as a 10th year surprise, Chill Out Festival will take place not 1, but 2 days in a row this year, both Saturday and Sunday.
At the end of the month, Mini Muzikhol, Nublu and Souq come together and turn May 30th into Güzel Bir Gün (“One Fine Day”). During the day there will be several activities to enjoy the warmth of the sun, and Feathered Sun, Ilhan Ersahin, Buyuk Ev Ablukada, Insanlar and Ayyuka take over for music…
If you’d like to bid farewell to the month of May with a festival, Kucukciftlik Park, celebrating its 40th anniversary with the Harvest Festival is the place to be. The festival offers a market place including a variety of ecological food, clothes, accessories, old records, groceries, cafes and several workshops.
