Antiochia: south-eastern cuisine that will blow your mind

Girl chef cooking at Antiochia

If you are fed up with Italian cuisine, your typical raki-balik meals or American-style fast food, listen carefully. Antiochia serves food from Turkey’s southern Hatay region – an area wedged between Syria and the Mediterranean Sea known for its multi-ethnic population, spicy food, unusual mezzes and succulent grilled meats. The owner Süleyman Gülüm’s search for Antioch cuisine in İstanbul led him to open this successful restaurant several years ago.

Located on a side street in trendy Tünel, surrounded by bars and clubs, Antiochia is always packed with both locals and tourists alike. So be ready to taste mezzes you’ve never had before, like ‘Muhammara’, a thick spread of walnuts, red pepper, spices, and pomegranate extract, a true Hatay signature, or our own favorite: the ‘kekik salatası’, a delicious mix of green olives. And say hi to Süleyman for us when you’re there, will you?
